How to Make White-Castle-like Burgers
On Long Island, where I grew up, we called White Castle burgers “ratties.” Now that I live in Minneapolis, I know that their true name is “sliders.” Whatever you call them, White Castle burgers are - usually - an acquired taste.
I recently found a great blog post on the site Big Red Kitchen, with step-by-step instructions on how to make your own burgers look and taste just like the sliders you grew up with. The post includes terrific photos (like the one here), along with practical advice for cook and what to use (”Firmly pat 2 pounds of ground chuck over top of the onion flakes and sprinkle with your favorite seasoned salt”).
I’m no huge fan of sliders, but I do love hamburgers every now and then, and I’ve found that my kids are more likely to eat them if they’re little and cute like the ones on Big Red Kitchen.
